I am the school librarian at an elementary School. On Fridays, we have Club Day. I have been teaching students how to play card games, play checkers, play chess, put together puzzles and do scavenger hunts both inside and outside. I want to encourage them to get off their phones, iPads, computers and X boxes and learn that there is so much more they can do for fun. Research is showing that too much technology is not good for their developing brains. I am trying to set up centers in the Library Media Center for all of the students, so they have a place they can come during the school day to have fun and learn. I hope to have the teachers who do centers in the classroom, make the library a center away from the classroom. Through games and puzzles, I want the students to learn to work together and have activities they can do at home, too. Right now the puzzles we use are only $1.00 at Dollar Tree. I am trying to find things that are inexpensive that can be purchased for families to use together. So far, I have purchased all of the games that we use. I would love some help with these activities, so that we can branch out and do more fun things together.
