These books will be shared with my fellow grade 11 English teacher. We will use these novels to enrich the reading experience of our students. "You must always ask yourself, whose story am I missing? Whose voice was suppressed so that this voice could come forth? Once you have figured that out, you must find that story, too." This question is presented by one of the descents in the novel, Homegoing. Our English team will read this book to help our students acknowledge the millions of "missing" voices. Homegoing follows the descendants of two half sisters through three centuries and eight generations. The characters in this novel represent the diverse experiences of African Americans from the 1700's to present day. In Frankenstein we will explore what it means to be human. This adapted edition will enable my students to better understand this brilliant and complex novel. Through this reading, students will examine empathy, rejection, love and revenge. We will connect this novel to the present day by analyzing and discussing scientific responsibility, morality, and the power of kindness and acceptance.
