I teach a 11th grade World and United States History. Students in these classes come from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds an average of 50% are classified as economically disadvantaged and many speak a language other than English at home: Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, Spanish, Cantonese, Arabic and Portuguese. The school is 32% African American, 22% Asian, 30% Hispanic and 11% White. I teach in a public exam school. The city participates in a busing program, so some students travel up to 2 hours to get to and from school. It is important for me to prepare all students for college.
