In a special education classroom there are many different needs that come through the door. Needs that include personalize learning and a calming and supportive environment. With many of my students struggling with learning disabilities or emotional disturbance, the general education classroom, at times can be somewhat "traditional" in teaching style and seating options. Therefore, providing my classroom with other options such as white board tables, wobble stools and tables in which students can engage in learning while standing allow for a different mindset. White board tables offer students the opportunity to work out math problems or create graphic organizers without using paper. Students get the opportunity to be more creative and will connect with their lesson through writing on tables. Wobble stools as well as high top tables allow students to be more active while completing their daily lessons. Extremely active students tend to be more focused when they can move their bodies and learn at the same time. They are able to focus their energy while calming their bodies at the same time. These supplies will give my students the opportunity to engage in learning in a non-traditional environment.
