Hello! My name is Angela Bibb and I work as a school counselor for the past 15 years for students in grades 6-12. It has always been a goal of mine to have a working therapy dog in the schools. There are so many benefits for the school to have a working therapy dog. I am in a unique role to help bring a therapy dog to the school to work with students. Therapy dogs have a positive effect on school climate and culture. Having a working therapy dog in schools help students learn about nurturance, practice discipline, learn responsibility, compassion, empathy, and love. Therapy dogs can help improve cooperation, reduce anxiety and help students process difficult emotions. Animals in the classroom have proven to enhance empathy, improve socialization to others, brighten mood, and improve the ability for students to trust. Students and staff have had a very difficult year with COVID and the many restrictions. For some, this experience was very traumatic. Therapy dogs help address issues people dealing with trauma may face. I would love to bring this opportunity to my school. I am looking for donations to help with the cost of getting a working therapy dog to come to the schools and work with students 6-12. The purchase of a dog bed, leash, and chew toys would be very helpful. My goal is to raise $4000 to cover the cost of the therapy dog and the training needed to have him work in the schools. I am taking a loan to pay for the dog, and any support is appreciated.
