This year, I had 90% of my class enter on an early kindergarten reading level. To change this in my class and across the school, we've shifted our attention to literacy building. At the very beginning of the day, students are engaged in a foundational skills lesson, where we break down concepts in phonics and grammar, and then break out to do literacy workstations to supplement teacher instruction. The students get to use manipulatives, build words, practice fluency and reading comprehension. This is where our class needs a little help. So far, the workstations I've made myself for interactive and kinesthetic learning have done so well, and we want to shift an even greater focus towards engaging new skills in centers. Letter tiles, word building activities, and magnet letters will all help my students get familiar with composing words and even just writing their letters! Writing centers will help my kiddos grow in their familiarity and confidence with writing. There are so many possibilities with these literacy resources! With these additional materials, I'm confident my class would see even greater growth over this next semester!
