We currently have old, broken and extremely uncomfortable chairs that are borrowed from the central office of the school district. The Restorative Justice program facilitates class room circles of 30+ students on a regular basis, as well as teaches a class of 32 students every day. We facilitate harm circles and support circles for students who need more intensive support.
All of the work we do has a huge and powerful impact on the whole school community. We have asked the district, as well as our PTSA to fund us getting a complete set of chairs for our space, and have been denied. Resources are limited and sometimes people don't feel the importance of chairs for this work. Everybody has to sit in chairs and to have a set of chairs specifically for the Restorative Justice Program and can't be taken away by the district, is super important.
We work with hundreds of students every year. My peer leaders facilitated community building circles for 450 9th graders two weeks ago alone and this is only in one week. We deserve to have a place for everyone to sit and chairs that are not broken or falling apart.
