Hearing a book read on tape helps students see how words on the page can come alive in a fluid and expressive way. It helps them focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provides a model of fluent reading. Many books on tapes have interesting sound effects and music that are motivating and fun for young readers. The more students listen, the greater their chances of learning new vocabulary words. Audio books are an important introduction to listening and a skill that must be mastered in order to learn to read. This type of reading experience will bring pleasure to my students.
