All learners need choices. This is especially true when it comes to high-ability students. To meet the incredible and unique needs of my students, I would like to provide them with materials that promote their kinesthetic development. I believe that many high-ability/gifted learners need a flexible learning environment that allows them choices: Choices, not only in how they learn a concept, but where they learn a concept. Students with higher kinesthetic needs require an environment that allows them the freedom to move and change positions throughout the day in order to remain engaged and on task. Research continues to support the benefits of flexible seating in the classroom and many teachers have observed beneficial outcomes: improvement in grades, better health, and higher student engagement. I plan to use the high stools at our small group table, and the wobble cushions and yoga ball chairs will be made available to students to use at a combination of desks and table groups. In addition to table and desk seating, I plan to use the lap desks for students who wish to work on the floor or in our classroom window nook.
