Imagine a classroom of 30 busy, energetic and eager to learn third graders. All are seated on the floor in their invisible assigned spots during a lesson. Within minutes, squirminess sets in and the children begin to shift. "Stop touching me, you are in my spot!" We eventually need to stop our lesson to redirect our students back to their original spots. This is a common occurrence in our classroom. Even during the most engaging lessons, it is easy to lose momentum when we need to stop to redirect a child. We also lose valuable time at the beginning of each lesson while we wait for students to settle into their spots. A colorful rug with 30 squares is the perfect solution to our problem! Each child has a special spot in their square, which reduces the time needed to assist students with their assigned spots. What a great classroom management tool! It also helps our students respect and honor each others personal space.
