Students who play with blocks tend to excel in the subjects of mathematics and science. Allowing my students to physically handle KEVA planks can build a fundamental understanding of quantities, balance, stability, geometry, etc. Research has proven that the use of hands-on manipulatives, such as Keva Planks, can increase students' attentiveness and engagement. Keva planks will be an important part of the MakerSpace in our library. Though simple in design, these planks can be used in an infinite number of ways. We will use them for engineering challenges, often in small groups encouraging collaboration and communication. Building, exploring, and communicating with others is an essential skill to becoming a successful 21st century learner.
