In debate and forensic competition it is very important to have the right materials. The students competing in the acting events need these requested Avery mini binders to put their materials in. Inside the binder they have their script that has been marked and high lighted with stage directions, emotional markers and page turns that emphasize the characters. Students without binders, or with binders that are big or not black, are judged down so that their scores are not always a reflection of their performance. Students become attached to their binders and after a year or two of competition they fall apart. The use of timers in competition and practice is of paramount importance. Each event the students have a time limit on how long their performance has to be. In debate competition each speech has a specific length. Each student needs access to a timer, either while competing or during practice.
