The book display will be used to highlight the types of genres students are learning about. When going book shopping, many of the students want books like we are talking about. This will streamline the process of students getting the exact type of book that they are shopping to put in their fluency bags. My school serves a large population of ESOL Hispanic speakers. The population is so great that, my school is slated to be the ESOL center in the district for these families. The guided reading books will help student who are just learning the language to be able to read books in their native language as a stepping stone to learning English words for the Hispanic ones. The white boards and dry erase pouches are such a great thing to have on hand when doing formative assessments on material being taught and during stations in both ELA and math. These are just needed to record on sheets before pictures are taken and uploaded to the drive. Another great thing about both of these it saves on paper use, which helps the environment! Last but not least, the study carrels are a MUST have in a classroom where tables are used. Some students with focusing difficulties are overwhelmed with stimuli and have a hard time focusing on their work. Also, study carrels are needed when doing assessments to help my first graders keep their attention on their materials and not the rest of the table's! These materials may seem unimpressive or insignificant, but they make a HUGE difference with creating a safe and caring learning space. Not having these materials last year and many of them for the last three years, have shown just how powerful and needed these supplies are!
