How many times in your own life are you asked to become more flexible - maybe for a job, family task, or lending a hand in the community. We are always asked to become more flexible, but why do we not allow our children? Sitting stationary for long periods of time is difficult even for adults. Allowing for flexible seating in the classroom creates an environment where each child is able to thrive. It gives each student a sense of security, where it also gives breaks and opportunities to change the way their bodies interact with the world they are surrounded by. The students will be able to concentrate for longer periods of time with more sustained focus by being comfortable in a space that meets their individual needs. Students most often are aware of what works well with their bodies and also gives an added sense of responsibility to chose a seat to help keep them engaged. The seats would allow for my amazing students to learn to make productive choices to allow them to find what seat material works best for them. It allows the classroom to become less restrictive and more inclusive for those around them. This gives students the opportunities to stretch not only their minds but their bodies.
