History classes tend to include a lot of note taking and essays. To make our United States History Class more exciting, we are trying to include frequent, small hands-on summaries and projects. We need supplies in order to provide opportunities for these projects. Help us make history more hands-on and fun for 8th grade students! We need supplies and organizational carts in order to provide opportunities for summarization and craft activities in United States History classes. This will allow us to create different projects and approach the teaching of history in multiple ways. For example, we are currently studying the history of the Louisiana Purchase, President Andrew Jackson, and Indian Removal. This is a lot of information! These 13-14 year olds need to take breaks from reading, taking notes, and summarizing. We need to draw maps of the Louisiana Purchase (and the many plants and animals cataloged by the Corps of Discovery), draw a cartoon biography of President Jackson (including his duels and controversial Indian Removal Act) or create an artistic rendering of it the devastating Trail of Tears. Having supplies and organizational areas in our classroom to print, draw, color, cut and create will enable us to do hands on projects that help bring United States History alive!
