Making more technology available to the students I teach is a goal I have. I believe that by letting students have access to different types of technology they will acquire the skills necessary to be more successful in the future. For some of the kids at my school, this will be the first time they get to work with an iPad. Access to technology is limited for many of the students at our school for financial reasons and our school is not funded well enough to ensure the library media specialist can provide this essential access either. Specifically, having access to iPads will help me teach students everything from computer coding to skills necessary to persevere through challenges as they explore apps such as Breakout EDU. Along with the iPads, having access to chrome books in the library will help my student with researching the internet for information. The chrome books will also give them access to my online patron access catalog(OPAC) at my library. Giving each student the skills to access information in every library. Lacking technology also makes my students vulnerable to the dangers of the internet. I would use these materials to teach digital citizenship and online safety as well. Understanding plagiarism and the impacts that can have on their learning is important, so I will use these new devices to teach citations and formatting research to avoid these common pitfalls that can be so damaging in the future.
