Everyone knows young students learn best using their senses to explore; they are very tactile learners. A sensory light table gives them the best of all experiences; lights and colors and tactile manipulatives to explore with hands and eyes. Our immigrant population has not had experience with these types of manipulatives and they have a great need to explore and learn with these types of toys. Many are not ready for ABC's and I23's quite yet, and we want to reel them into the joy of learning and exploring through these sensory experiences. A big part of our learning day is center-based play and a light table will be an exciting addition to our classroom. Students will be able to either play with the sensory rings or we will alternate and use the light pegs with the pegboards. (We all remember LightBright, right?) Who can resist making patterns, sorting by color or just making designs with the cool, lighted pegs?
