My students will learn important English Language Arts (ELA) concepts while being introduced to classic literary works after I receive enough copies of Newbery Medal winner Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry, and Newbery Honor books Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen, and Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, by Grace Lin for each student to read from. Students don't have enough opportunities to learn from and enjoy great literature--but that will change in my classroom with the funding of this grant request! My students will be able to learn from classic literary works as we read, reflect on and discuss these compelling novels.
