My students will have an opportunity to experience their community and culture firsthand rather than reading about it in a textbook! Fostering a positive emotional connection between my students and their community is a critical component of their success in the classroom and beyond, yet so often what they are missing! Allowing students the experiences that help them understand the WHY in their work, and making it relevant beyond what they do while seated in their desks, will not only make their experiences authentic but hopefully inspire a curiosity for reading and literature turning my reluctant juniors into lifelong learners.
