All of these materials will be used to enhance my students creativity and thinking skills. During the COVID-19 soft closures, a lot of my students are at home playing video games or watching Youtube. Many of them also do not know how to interact with others in a positive way. These materials will help them realize that learning and exploring can be fun and they do not need to be "entertained" by fast-paced games and videos. Some of my students struggle behaviorally in the classroom due to academic struggles or emotion well being. These materials would also allow them a time to focus on something other than what is going on in their minds and the struggles they are feeling, yet at the same time be learning about balance, proportion, symmetry, engineering, etc. My students will have a chance to explore these STEM materials and use team work while also hopefully finding their inner creative self. Whether it is with by themselves, a partner, or group, they will play and not realize they are learning at the same time. I want to give my students a chance to problem solve, practice teamwork, and recognize that in order to succeed you have to also fail. It is so important to learn that failure is a part of learning and to keep trying to find the solution as they build different things and to not give up. To others, this is a time to feel successful as they might struggle with writing, reading or math, but with these hands on activities they feel empowered and develop confidence in themselves. The products I have selected will bring learning through play into my classroom and add so much excitement for my students!
