My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word. Our classroom library is a place my students love visiting. Every day students come into our room asking if we have any new books for them to read. They flip through the pages with excitement for learning and a passion for transporting themselves to new and wondrous lands. My students continue to show their gratitude and appreciation for these books as they keep our shelves organized and place the books gently back. I often ask my students for new books and topics that interest them. Many of the titles included in this project are from their recommendations. I hope to begin a "Book Babble" activity in which my students will share their personal opinion/ recommendations to other young scholars. They will be featured weekly as they fill out an easy 5 star rating system and leave a short description as to why we should or should not read their previous book. I believe this will not only encourage my students to be young scholars in reading, but will continue to improve their writing/communication skills as they will need to use words to form complete sentences. (We all have future literary critics in our midst.)
