My students come into my room to work when they are not working on performing arts. Some of them are in my room for a LONG time between arts classes, often spending hours working in front of a computer or studying academic material. Giving them options outside of sitting at their desks will help keep them motivated, comfortable, and ready to learn. The bean bag chairs and rug will provide us with a place to have casual small group discussions, work on group projects, or just serve as a comfy place to sit and read a book, or work with a laptop. The yoga balls will serve as "chairs" for students who want more movement, or an alternative to sitting in a traditional chair. By providing my students with more seating options, they can work in the way that works best for them. My self-paced learning platform is all about giving students choice and flexibility. By extending that flexibility to other areas of the room, I can create a stronger classroom community and provide my students with even more opportunities to keep moving forward, and achieving their goals.
