P.E. classes cover different activities that incorporate forward and lateral movements. Students need a good cross training shoe with good traction, support, and stabilization to help prevent injuries. Many times students have to wear the same shoes (sneakers) all day that are not suitable for physical education. Families have to often make hard financial choices and appropriate sneakers for physical education can be expensive and don't fit into their budget. Students deserve to come to physical education class and safely participate at the same level as their classmates. Self-esteem is an important factor contributing to their ability to perform well in class and I am hoping to help our students by taking away the worry that their sneaker will fall off or break apart during class. Creating a sneaker locker where students can borrow sneakers for P.E. and then return them to a locker at the end of the period would be an important step to help my students. Students will be responsible for returning them and spraying them with disinfectant after each use. Eventually, I hope to be able to collect enough sneakers that we will be able to give students a pair to take home, but for now the most basic need of safe and comfortable sneakers for P.E. class will be afforded to students who need them most.
