According to data collected by the American Psychological Association for the Stress in America Survey, teen stress rivals that of adults. “ Forty percent of teens report feeling irritable or angry, 36 percent report feeling nervous or anxious, 36 percent report feeling fatigued or tired, and 31 percent report feeling overwhelmed due to stress in the past month.” As a high school teacher, I have witnessed how stress has impacted student performance in the classroom.
In order to improve focus and concentration and encourage teens to slow down and think before they act, I would like to incorporate mindfulness activities in the classroom. By providing opportunities within the school day to learn guided meditation and de-stressing activities, student academic performance and overall mental wellness will improve. The materials requested will be used to create activities to support guided meditation and mindfulness.
The workbook, mindfulness therapy cards, coloring pages will be used to create mindfulness activities in the classroom. The meditation singing bowl and mats will be used to create a comfortable setting that will allow students to be " in the present" by focusing on sounds/guided meditation practices.
