Much of the learning we will do this year is centered around non-fiction texts. My students will have the opportunity to learn about historical events and time periods that shaped the world they currently live in. I want to encourage them to always ask questions. I want them to question the world as it was, is and can be. In order to better understand current events and news I want my students to have access to online and print copies of Scholastic News. I believe it is beneficial or them to learn how to access and process news through multiple platforms, which helps build critical 21st century skills. Additionally, Scholastic News will provide them with a structured learning experience for engagement in what is happening outside the classroom. This resource will help my students become active and informed citizens, as well as helping to build literacy skills that are necessary for success in the 4th Grade.
