The use of musical instruments in mariachi class is essential for students. Using instruments not only allows students to transmit their emotions but it also allows them to narrate the traditions, stories and cultural values of Mexican Folk songs. Although the school currently provides students with guitars and trumpets, my students still need violins, guitarrones, and vihuelas to play traditional music in a traditional setting. The instruments that we posses are not in optimal playing conditions, they often have to be repaired by volunteers and myself in order to continue working.
By donating to our project, you will help students receive a well rounded musical and cultural experience that will ultimately help them gain a better understanding of the Traditional Mexican Repertoire and allow them to connect with other students in campus and community members.
Students will be able to focus on the musical aspect of the class and not worry about an instrument that works. In addition to providing the current students an instrument, it could also serve as a motivation for other students to join the class now that they know that there are instruments for them to play.
