The students in my classroom are choosing to be present in the moment without judgement or fear of judgement. They strive to be compassionate and empathetic individuals that make the world a better place with their kindness. The power of the brain is amazing. This year my students have shown a passionate interest in mindfulness. They are eager to collect more resources to help them learn how to truly be present and fill the world with their loving kindness. We are seeking books to provoke mindful moments in our classroom community. As you can see, I chose a variety of read alouds to read to my students in our weekly mindfulness circles. A good book has the power to provoke deep thought and intense character building. I also chose a few books for me to use to help develop my mindfulness curriculum. “ The Sitting Together Activity Book,” and “Planting Seeds,” will help guide me as I dive into mindfulness with my students. We are also seeking tools to use to help train our brains and calm our bodies and minds. I have selected a variety of items that my students will be able to use, hands-on, to help themselves calm down, focus, and look within. The finger labyrinth and zen sand garden came highly recommended by a fellow teacher that said her students reach for these frequently. The Brain anatomy model is another item that I am excited to use to actually show my students how the brain works. They will be encouraged to take it apart and rebuild it to help foster a true understanding of how the brain is built. Having these resources in the classroom will help make the world a better place by creating humans that have a developed mindfulness practice.
