Flexible seating allows students to have a choice of where they work. It allows them to change their location and position as needed. My students are able to choose where in the room they work during partner work and when they are working independently, many often choose to sit on the carpet or other spots on the floor. My students are able to make good decisions about where they choose to work, however without flexible seating options they are left to work uncomfortably and become unmotivated to complete their work. Giving students a choice in seating and where they work develops higher order thinking skills and puts kids in charge of their own learning. Through these items, they will learn how to make decisions about their learning, as well as how to responsibly use and move the flexible seating options throughout the room. The requested cushions and floor chairs are a great resource for my students who choose to complete their work on the floor. The stools, chair bands, and seat cushion are great flexible seating options for my students who prefer to work at a desk but have a difficult time sitting still. All of these options will allow students to be more comfortable, engaged, and motivated in the classroom.
