The recorder is many students' gateway into what it means to learn to read music, improvise, and practice a particular skill. The curriculum and the music relies on recorders to help push the student's musicianship to the next level. When we learn to play these recorders we are learning how to listening, play solo and with others, practice, read music, and create our own music as well. When my students are learning to play recorder we emphasize the importance of practicing on your own and a very important character trait we encourage in all our students: the power perseverance!
