The books in this collection will support my students as they explore literature. The students in my class do not connect with one single identity. Therefore it is inconceivable the they should be required read books that do not speak to their individual differences. Books with characters of diverse backgrounds, races, and life experiences will promote their reading comprehension as well as their understanding of others and the world around them. Children need books that reflect their reality and validate their own life stories. I want my students to be able to read literature that speaks to their past experiences, while encouraging their future successes.
