I teach both English 9 and Advanced Studies English 9. Having freshmen is my favorite because my class gets to set the tone for their high school experience. They're old enough to hold an intellectual conversation -- and I sure do love to hear and read their thoughts and opinions -- but they're young enough to still be genuinely curious in a classroom setting. They love anything active and hands-on, and although they're 14, they're still kids. My freshmen have a need to please and be "right," but something I have the privilege of teaching them is how to fail and how to be wrong but then get back up and try again because that's how you learn. In addition to English, I am also the yearbook adviser and I teach an Intro and Advanced course. I get to work with the most creative, fun, and hard-working students, and it's kind of big deal to teach a group of students whose homework people will PAY to read.
