Tank drums have a very soothing tone quality to them. Research has been shown that these tank drums can be played by or for students who are experiencing self regulation issues as a means to calm them. The tonal quality is different from a typical drum. They are more of a relaxing sound such as wind chimes. These drums can also be used to teach children necessary number and letter identification skills if taught to play songs by using a drum that is labeled with codes (numbers, letters, or colors) that correspond with a musical tune. Children learn to read from left to right and are able to be success with a highly motivating medium.
