These items are needed to create fine motor opportunities and sensory regulation for older kids. To address deficits in writing, students are in need of finger spacers to provide adequate spacing with lettering on paper. Also for writing, I am able to use the Giant Early Writing Magnetic Page to model proper use of pencils and writing instruments when using them on paper. These two resources, when used together, will allow the modeling that students require to complete the tasks they are given.
I think I may have found the perfect resources for occupational therapy with a learning twist for a few of my busier students! The game Operation is a fun and creative way for students to practice holding the writing instruments. The fun part for them comes with being able to extract or insert parts of their patient without touching the sides to alarm the buzzer. For me, I will be able to complete mini observations based on their performance. Additional resources such as Fine Motor Fun and Super Duper Move Your Body Fun Deck Cards are also helpful when it comes to being able to determine which students may benefit from a more challenging way of incorporating occupational therapy skills in the classroom.
There are also more learning based resources in this project that will assist students with problem solving abilities as well as using picture cues for reading and sequencing. While these resources can be used when I am working with students on my caseload, they could also be provided as strategies for teachers during small group instruction. That way, students are able to continue on the path to success. I hope that you are able to help us with our first project!
