Our choice-based studio is always abuzz with joyful noise of artists creating. Students are able to realize their own unique art ideas, meaning that while one student creates a collage inspired by their favorite sport, another student might be painting a portrait of their favorite aunt. One of the essential ways we "behave like artists" in our studio is by reflecting on our own work. iPads at our reflection station allow artists of all ages and abilities to photograph their own work and type or record authentic reflections in a timely manner. This results in students owning their learning and building a student-centered portfolio that builds skills for creating digital portfolios later in life. When students are able to reflect on their work as artists, they are better able to look at their individual growth and set meaningful goals.
