We're starting Force and Motion in January! Almost every day we'll be rolling marbles down ramps and dropping ping pong balls from a table. But where will we record our data? How can we organize all this information we're discovering? How can we, as a class, come up with answers independently and share them at once? Science is best learned through creative expression. Composition notebooks are the foundation for interactive notebooks, where students fold, cut, draw, and tape their notes and graphic organizers in a way that encourages personal pride in their learning. White boards allow students to write answers in a novel way, and allow me to assess the class as a whole with one sweeping look across the room. I want to make the so-called "boring" part of science -- the note-taking, the data-collection, the review -- an engaging process in which students feel invested.
