Learning centers provide a great opportunity for students to work in small groups and to receive the extra support they need to further their literacy skills in the classroom. Centers also allow me to be able to give small group, differentiated instruction while other students are still being given opportunities to learn. By giving them the opportunity to hear themselves by using the Hear Myself Sound manipulatives, my students can work on their pronunciation and vocabulary. Though they have shown tremendous growth over the past two months, many of them need small instructional support. As a first year teacher, I have very few resources that can be used in small group centers. Hands-on resources are essential to student learning, much like the Alphabet Learning Locks, that can help my fidgety students be able to better focus on the task at hand. These are especially useful because they can be used in both Spanish and English literacy centers. These manipulatives will be beneficial for my students and help to support them in their bilingual journey.
