We need cameras for my media classes. Knowledge of the visual world is so important. My students want to learn photography, but I have limited resources. We have a few staff cameras, and many of my students cannot afford a camera. My goal is not to just educate award-winning photographers. I want to educate kids on documenting the world. I want them to feel like journalist, historians, artists and creators behind a camera. I want them to understand how easy it is to tell the truth and to tell a lie with the lens. More cameras would allow each student more hands-on experience. There are just things you can learn holding that camera and experimenting that you just cannot learn from a book or slide show. Additional cameras will improve the student publications, but I also think it could improve much more. They will learn a lot about photography. It will also make them better consumers of media and the world around them.
