FRC teams that use custom designed frames for their robots have the ability to make robots tailored to the FRC challenge each year. My students' FIRST robotics team will use these tools to create custom frames for their robot projects. Every year FIRST robotics releases a new challenge and student teams must design and build a robot to meet that challenge. Up to now, my students have relied on the kit frame which is good, but not ideal. I want to challenge the students to design a custom frame, cut it out of aluminum on a CNC machine, and assemble it using lightweight and sturdy aircraft rivets.
