This project, which consists of a wish list of garden supplies will benefit all of the students at my Title 1 school. Title 1 means that the majority of the families are at or near the poverty level. The supplies requested will help the garden flourish, which will provide students with opportunities that will give them ways to learn outside of the traditional classroom setting. I have a hydroponics kit on the list that the humanities teacher will use to grow plants in with her K-5 classes. Our school uses the Green Our Planet curriculum, which is designed to help schools fund and use outdoor vegetable gardens as “hands-on” laboratories and meets the needs of nutrition and environmental awareness standards as well. With the increase of global warming, depleting forests, and loss of animal habitats, it is more important than ever that these children learn to appreciate and repair the damage that has been done to our Earth's environment. Having the students learn early in life how to grow vegetation and learn the importance of recycling, our environment will improve in the future. This project will help with this goal.
