Often students become ill or injured while they are at school. School nurses are often called to the playground or other area of school grounds to assess students that cannot ambulate. Currently, the school that I service does not have a wheelchair that will "roll" on the sidewalk, blacktop, grass or anywhere but indoor flooring. I am requesting a wheelchair for my school that can actually allow me to transport the student to the health room for further assessment and care. A wheelchair that rolls on sidewalks would also be a great asset if we have an evacuation and have to move a student that has temporary mobility issue (walking boot, crutches, etc.) to an offsite location.
