Starting a collection of tablets in my classroom will serve as a resource for students to research artists, art movements, and various traditional and contemporary art forms, have more choice in what they are learning, be self-directed as well as collaborate, be exposed to digital art and drawing techniques, and mirror contemporary practices of working artists. Technology in my art class serves as an aid to inspire rather than a crutch to lean on. Even though today's children are constantly surrounded by technology, there is not much literacy taught on how to use it to their advantage for educational purposes and to further investigate their interests. Having tablets in the classroom will allow students to have a place to research without the distraction of social media, and have them begin to view it as a tool.
