Who needs paper? In the digital age, it is quite easy to assume that downloading and sharing school work would suffice, however, students still need to use paper every day! It is vital to the educational, creative and emotional growth of our students to have paper available to them all of the time. Paper is not just something that is readily available to all students. With working parents and busy schedules, sometimes a simple thing like replenishing your paper supply at home may go unnoticed. We need paper to help inspire our students to pick up a pen or pencil and begin to pour their words on a page, analyze mathematical content, map out their very own science innovations through trial and error, record history, write poetry, create an astounding piece of music or art, design the next invention that could change the world, and document their deepest inner thoughts for their own emotional well being The bottom line is we need paper in our everyday lives. Known as a safe and welcoming environment, students often visit the school library with a look of panic on their face wondering if I can help them by printing out a project that they are working on or something as simple as a completed homework assignment. With over 1,300 students in our population, paper is distributed at a rapid rate. Post It notes are a hot commodity in our classrooms and by this time of the year, our students’ initial supply is almost depleted, leading them to the library to borrow some. Even tissues are high in demand for our middle schoolers, especially at this time of year. Whether it is loose leaf paper, copy paper, post it notes.
