As a social worker in an elementary school that is located in a high poverty area, I work with many students that need time to express their emotions in a safe and nurturing room. The carpet I have requested will be a place where students can sit, with our therapy dog, Poncho, and feel safe to express their feelings. Right now my room doesn´t have a rug of any kind and the floor is super cold. I have hard chairs for the kids to sit in but I don´t have a place where they can sit and be comfortable. This carpet will make a huge difference in my students´ lives. It will give them a warm and inviting place to express their feelings in a safe and nurturing room. Social skills are extremely important to address in schools today. Students need to learn how to appropriately socialize, solve problems and interact with other students. This carpet will allow my group time sessions to meet together in a comfy area of the room. My students will learn how to socialize with other students in a positive and appropriate way.
