My students attend a school in a big city in Wisconsin. They come from very diverse backgrounds. Most are living well below the poverty line. More than half do not speak English at home and have limited access to books outside of the classroom. School library is only offered for a half hour once a week. They are eager to learn, usually enjoy school and basically happy kids. Overall, they are behind in their reading skills and need lots of books and time to read to help them improve.If we have a class library full of interesting books that will help them not only feel special but also improve their reading.
