As a counselor at a Title I school, I have seen many of our students struggle with their behavior. These are students who are misunderstood and only viewed by all the negative things they do. Many of us fail to realize these students are living very hard lives. Many of my students are homeless, abused, neglected, they are living in homes with domestic and community violence. I want to develop small groups (7 Students per grade level) 2nd thru 5th grade that will help them develop strength, courage, and understand how to manage those negative emotions. Having Apple iPads for my groups would be beneficial to be able to have interactive programs such as near pod or Social Emotional Learning curricula that will teach our students how to manage their behaviors and make more informed and good life choices or behavior choices. This will help behavior referrals to go down in our school being proactive instead of reactive. Also, will help lower the bullying cases in our school.
