I have the opportunity to work with a creative, fun, and brave group of 30 ELL (English Language Learners) students from a Title one School in Summerville, SC. Despite the challenges they face every day (moving to a different country, trauma, living with extended families, not knowing the language), these students enjoy learning and are eager to overcome any obstacle in order to succeed not only academically, but in life. My 30 students are in all 6 elementary levels, from kindergarten to 5th grade, and have various English Language Proficiency levels. Many of my students come from low income families where education may not have been a priority in past generations but they have been forced to leave their countries in hopes of finding better opportunities and a better quality of life for their children.
