My students must keep up with the advancing world around them. Technology is a helpful tool, but the hands on materials being requested bring students closer to understanding how to solve problems, and give various opportunities on how to express their thoughts. Students in my classroom like to work collaboratively to solve environmental problems in the world. My students are very visual learners, but have a limited space to express themselves in the classroom. With the large whiteboards, students can not only collect field data, but have the opportunity both at lab tables and outdoors to work inn groups to draw and come up with observations on how to understand the environment around them. A group of students can easily modify ideas and graphic models that they design on the whiteboards. The donations to this project will not only increase collaboration and student focus, but will greatly help to increase academic achievement. In this project, students are designing eco-columns (mini-biospheres) to model self-sustaining ecosystems around the world. After designing the models they will construct them as a group, and use the 4-Way Analyzer to test what is happening over 12 weeks in the terrestrial levels. These tools create limitless opportunities for hands on learning for all learning levels. Students most impacted are the advanced students that will get to go further beyond the curriculum and advanced their scientific skills. My students will be thrilled to learn to use new tools, and discover connections to the local outdoor environment that they are a part of.
