This project has to components. 1st is the need for electronics learning. 2nd is the desire of our robotics team to reach the community and share their passion for STEM. First, many high school technology programs have been gutted and reduced to minimal staff and lack of electives. Digital and Analog electronic classes are not offered at our school. The only place to learn anything about electronics is in physics or our FIRST Robotics team. In physics it is minimal basic types of circuits. In robotics, only a few students will pursue the ins an outs of circuit design and sensor integration. These Arduino kits will allow all 45 of our robotics students a set of projects and activities to form a foundation of electronics knowledge. It will also provide programming experience to all students who engage with the kits. This will help our team, the students futures, and ultimately our school and community Second, the robotics team loves to provide outreach to our high school and middle and elementary schools. They also meet with our local girl scout troops. One of the ideas to show how STEM is cool, is to bring their arduino projects to outreach events, and into our cafeterias for demos and meet and greets. They students will show off the creations, and create posters and handouts about their projects and the robotics teams robots to help spread the message of STEM. The vinyl cutter will provide our students the means to creating t-shirts, posters, signs, giveaways, fundraising opportunities, and bring the robotics team the visuals they need to do effective outreach in our school and community.
