Flexible seating allows students to feel a sense of ownership in the classroom. We strive to build a sense of community and family inside the classroom. When you have flexible seating, the students can move the seats to collaborate easier. They will have the choice to choose their seating. The students will feel as if they are able to take charge of their own seating, which will help them feel more comfortable. Learning cannot take place inside of a classroom that does not make every learner feel comfortable. During instructional time, students are sitting at desks. During their independent work time and group work, students can choose which seat works best for them. I have noticed that students who choose their seating are more engaged in their learning and tend to work harder. I would like bean bag chairs to allow for more comfortable seating options. The wiggle chairs and wobble chairs will allow students who tend to be wiggly options to stay seated but also release some of that energy. The wiggle bands and chairs will allow students to stay seated during instructional time, but also release some energy at their desks. The chairs will all be lightweight enough to be moved around the classroom.
