The world is as wonderful and diverse as my students are! My students will be able to use the microscope and slides to examine sand from different parts of the world. I am so excited to set up a sand lab for my students. The sand will be donated from friends, students, and co-workers as they journey around the world. We will be able to look on the globe to see where the sand came from. Each jar of sand will start in a Ziploc bag. The sand will be labeled with its original location and the date collected. It will then be dried in the sun on the black trays in order to remove all of the moisture. Each batch of sand will then be stored in a glass jar with its origin and date. No two beaches are the same, just as no two students are the same. We will be able to examine and discuss sand from all over the world to discuss where it came from originally as sand is a by product of weathering, erosion, and seafloor spreading. Help me to make sand and science come alive!
